Asheville, NC was a blast. I was enamored with the view of the mountains on the Blue Ridge Parkway - what a beautiful place to live. I wish we had more time to explore Asheville but being away from the kids from 4 days was the longest we have ever been away and you have to start somewhere ;) With the travel, we ended up with TWO full days of exploring and we did pack a ton of fun into those two days so I will walk you through it in pictures and words in today’s post.
Personally, I think it’s incredibly important to try and take time both for yourself and for you and your partner if it’s feasible. I totally understand that finding childcare can be tricky (we only have our parents right now and haven’t had a proper “babysitter” in years). Being able to celebrate YOU and your relationship is so important for your kids and for later on when the kids end up leaving their home and creating their own lives (crazy to think about)! Anyways, we realized that we need to try to do this more often - maybe once a year from now on.
We packed everything into our Tom Bihn backpacks which I love because the top portion unzips and becomes your “personal item” while the rest of it is your “carry-on luggage”. However, I really disliked how it gave me a headache from walking around with 45 lbs on my neck/back so I will most likely switch to my beloved carry on luggage next time.
We ended up flying into Raleigh because Ailsa and her husband live near there and it was on their way. We had a 4 hour drive into Asheville but it was a blast spending time with Ailsa, Karla and their husbands on the way. That first day we got in around 3 pm and then began our drive stopping in at Ailsa’s friend Andrea’s house and meeting up with Ailsa’s daughters for a bit in Greensboro.
We got to our Airbnb just outside Asheville around midnight and quickly turned in so that we could get a full day on Friday.
