Go-to Outfit Combinations for Busy Moms + New Substack Topics
What the hell to wear when we run ourselves crazy day to day?
Greetings everyone! I have been doing a lot of thinking of how I want to use this space here on Substack. I have narrowed it down to three different sections that I feel pretty passionate about and I wanted to connect with you all about the intentions of the paid part of this subscription.
Part 1: Style
The reason why I wanted to create anything online (back in 2008) was to use that creative part of my brain outside of the Emergency Department. Much of this revolved around style and I have always LOVED expressing myself through an outfit. Once I became a mother this became a bit blurred for me and I felt like it all went out the window. I lived in the same shit every day and felt pretty out of sorts. I truly believe that getting up and getting “ready” for the day is half the battle with motherhood and I hope to inspire you to throw on something that makes you feel like a rockstar. For me, this is usually athleisure but occasionally I throw on jeans or simple pants. You don’t need to be gussied up to feel put together! Anyways, there will be seasonal capsule wardrobes with complete outfit planning as well as mini capsules that go out within this paid subscription……
Part 2: Fixating on Protein
One of the mistakes I made as I ventured into motherhood was not paying attention to how I was fueling my body - specifically, the lack of protein. You don’t realize how important it is and you can certainly recognize when your body is deficient - especially if you are working out. It helps curb hunger, give you healthy hair, skin and nails, repairs cells and tissues (whether after a workout or doing times of significant stress), preserve/build muscle mass (as we age this is extremely important), and it plays a role in creating antibodies which helps boost our immune system support. I spent years being protein deficient and noticed such a huge difference in all of the above when I started getting enough protein in my diet. Right now my goal is always to intake as many grams as my own bodyweight. You can also use this calculator here. I will be talking about protein quite a bit as well as sharing some of my favorite snacks and meals.
Part 3: Being a Mother in America
Damn this shit is a joke, isn’t it? No paid leave. Insanely high childcare costs. The glorification of the “nuclear family” instead of extended family help when it comes to raising children. The invisible mental work load that many mothers balance. Lack of healthcare insurance/resources. Lack of postpartum support. I could go on and on. I want to spend lots of time addressing the failures of our system and how we can fight back and make a better country for our children.
These are the sections that my paid Substack will include. If you have any other questions - please respond in the comments below or just shoot me an email! If you cannot afford a paid subscription and really want to be part of the community, email me. I hope for this space to be one that we love to come to and discuss both real life shit and the fun stuff all in one.
Today’s style feature is a mini capsule for winter that focuses on laid back athleisure type looks. These are outfits that look pulled together for every day but also emphasize comfort. These are all pieces that I already have in my closet and I can’t wait to print this out and try them all out.
