I always pack for our family the same way. Depending on where we are headed (i.e. beach vs. mountains) I will create a packing list. In this particular case, we are packing for warmer weather, which is easier. I made a printable packing list here that you can print out and use for yourself if you want.
I typically start the packing process a week ahead of time. I like to take my time and this allows me to think through items I may have otherwise forgotten. I print out my checklist and will write down items that may currently be in the wash and need to be added to our packing cubes and any items we may need to pick up at the store (sunscreen, toiletries, etc). You will see my process within the video below.
These packing cubes are essential for packing with kids, or even just for you to organize your own items within the suitcase. I use one cube per child and we pack them into two duffel backpacks.
Here is what we typically have with us for 4 kids:
Two duffel backpacks → all the kids stuff goes in here
One large suitcase → this is where my husband and I pack our items
One travel crib + crib tent → this will be our last trip needed this (side note: once we get rid of the “baby” travel items, traveling will seem immensely easier to us)
One toddler carrier → for longer hikes
One infant car seat + two boosters → we bring the car seat on the plane and pack the boosters into the “car seat bag” that holds the crib, crib tent, toddler carrier and the boosters. This car seat bag gets checked as an “irregular” item and is not something we have to pay additionally for.
Each child has their own backpack for the plane and I bring this bag + this crossbody on the plane for snacks, book, wallet, etc.
