One of the places I find the most peace is within a bookstore. I could get lost for hours browsing the bookshelves and flipping through books, looking for the perfect one to take up my afternoon. I swear that if I could have MY IDEAL full day to myself without kids, it would be spent in a bookstore, coffee in hand and the plans to get lost in the first book that catches my eye. These books will include any genre and any age group (I will occasionally include kids books that catch my eye as well - I found a great one for pre-teen girls today)
I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of bookstores and libraries more recently as you hear about more and more book bans. Book stores and libraries are essential for saving democracy and this has been put into writing many times over the years. You have read in books like “The Handmaids Tale” and “1984” how crucial reading and books can be when it comes to learning about crucial parts of history. This all results in less critical thinking skills, inability to learn certain parts of history, and more. Bottom line, support your local bookstores and libraries, they are SO important and always have been.
I wanted to create this new series where I wonder into a local bookstore and show you some of the books that jump out at me and ones that I add to my reading list. I would love for you to share your favorite recent favorite books or ones that maybe you can’t wait to get your hands on soon — leave these in the comment section below!
I wandered into one of my favorite bookstores in New Haven, CT called Atticus. You can grab an amazing sandwich and coffee and then enjoy walking around and browsing the books. I love their setup and the vibe inside. This bookstore is right next to Yale so you will see many people coming in and out.
If you are interested in any of these books - please consider utilizing your local library or buying it in a nearby bookstore to help support them (: I will link to the books but only to their publisher’s website so you can find out more info.
