Puerto Rico Recommendations with Kids
Photo dump, where to stay, where to eat, what to do + more!
We love to go somewhere warm if possible for spring break and this time we chose Puerto Rico! A quick 3 hour flight and you are immersed into another culture that has wonderful food, beaches and beautiful places to explore. Many parts of the island are still in recovery after Hurricane Maria in 2017 with signage still destroyed and/or missing, roads blocked off, parts of the rainforest inaccessible, etc. However, despite all that, it was still so beautiful and I highly encourage you to visit. Tourism is a big part of Puerto Rico’s economy so I hope this gives you the push to go disover the island.
We decided to stay in Rio Grande because of it’s close proximity to the rainforest and it’s amazing beaches. Most of the time we love staying in Airbnb’s as opposed to staying at a resort. We like to immerse ourselves into the culture of the places we visit and these airbnb’s are typically in a neighborhood where we can talk with neighbors and see how they live and what they have to say about the place they call home. It's about feeling the pulse of a place, understanding its rhythms and its quirks. And you just can't do that from the comfort of a resort. But when you're staying in an Airbnb, you're right in the thick of it all. You're shopping at the local markets, eating at the neighborhood joints, maybe even picking up a few words of the local language (our kids love to do this!). It's an immersive experience that you just can't replicate anywhere else.
