Hi everyone,
**Continuing to think about those affected by the fires in Los Angeles. Please send me more ways to help if you have good sources. I have one below for the Altadena community.
→ Altadena, CA has been deeply impacted by the wildfires. This has been a thriving Black community for generations. Please consider donating to impacted Black families here (this is where I donated - I scrolled to the families that were least fulfilled thus far)
We are gone this weekend for a basketball tournament in Newport and dare I say I see snow in the forecast?! Woo!
Here is a video of the basement and how it’s coming along! So thankful to my dad who has been working his ass off for the past 6 months (a day here, a day there!) Once all the trim is done, the paint can go up and then the flooring! We are at the home stretch!
Here is the before photo of the basement when you turned the corner into this room (wowzers)

WATCH || The Pitt | Max → We are big critics of any medical shows here in our house, especially emergency medicine (so many are unrealistic). This new show is absolutely great AND pretty darn realistic. A few parts so far had us laughing out loud because it’s exactly what we deal with. Love it! Watch the trailer here!
READ || TikTok Is Harming Children at an Industrial Scale | After Babel (Jonathan Haidt) → The evidence that we have about the negative impact of TikTok far outweighs the main reasons some will use the platform (consumerism)
“Compulsive usage correlates with a slew of negative mental health effects like loss of analytical skills, memory formation, contextual thinking, conversational depth, empathy, and increased anxiety,” in addition to “interfer[ing] with essential personal responsibilities like sufficient sleep, work/school responsibilities, and connecting with loved ones.”
READ || Giving Kids Some Autonomy Has Surprising Results | NY Times → the importance of autonomy cannot be understated. Preparing our kids to thrive and be independent without us is a huge priority.
WATCH || We Live in Time | Glamour → this movie portrays society’s obsession with motherhood being a woman’s sole identity and is currently on my must watch list.
WATCH || The M Factor | PBS → A documentary (first of it’s kind) that addresses menopause. Menopause has always been hush hush and it’s about time that we talk about it more and get women the help that they might need.
LISTEN || The Battle for Your Time: Exposing the Costs of Social Media | TED Talk → This will have you rethinking the way you spend your time immediately. So much is lost when we waste our time scrolling. Not only do we waste time but it affects us mentally and cognitively.
READ || Parable of the Sower | Octavia Butler → A post-apocalyptic novel that begins with deadly fires in LA in 2025 (PS. this was written in 1993) and then proceeds with a fascist President that was just sworn into office with the campaign slogan “Make America Great Again”. Similar to Handmaid’s Tale and 1984 and NEXT on my reading list!
Listening to this while working out recently….

READ → Abortion bans seem to be driving young people to move out of state / this could have significant economic impacts
READ → Police & Nurses Conspired to Fabricate Evidence Against Brittany Watts, Suit Says / A twist to the Brittany Watts case that will make your head truly spin. She was seen several times before her miscarriage, diagnosed with a placental abruption AND told her pregnancy was nonviable (and gave her no solution). She was sent home and miscarried shortly thereafter. Police AND medical staff still tried to implicate her with wrongdoing. Of note, this was a religiously affiliated hospital.
Can you imagine being denied an abortion when you are in kidney failure and in desperate need for dialysis? Pushing you to the brink of possibly needing a kidney transplant…..
