Heyyyy ya!
I’ll be honest. I’m not even sure what to write about the Fourth of July this year. Typically, this is a time when I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities we have in this country. I genuinely love this place I call home and feel incredibly privileged to live here. But lately, everything feels heavy.
The world, and especially this country, feels darker these days. There’s an ache I can’t shake, a sadness that sits right beneath the surface. The recent passage of this devastating bill, one that has left so many of us reeling, has made it hard to find the heart to celebrate. It’s a gut punch to those of us who believe in autonomy, in compassion, and in healthcare that truly serves people.
I’m linking to this post from Connecticut that breaks down what this bill actually means because knowledge is power and we need all the power we can get right now. As someone who has works in the Emergency Department, I cannot even begin to imagine how this will reshape the way we care for people in crisis. I’m already picturing the ripple effects, the fear, the confusion, the harm.
So today, I’m holding two conflicting feelings: immense gratitude for the freedoms we still have and deep sorrow for the ones that are slipping through our fingers. Maybe you’re feeling that way too. If you are, you’re not alone.
For me, it’s not about fireworks or barbecues this year. It’s about staying awake to what’s happening, using our voices, and continuing to fight for the kind of country we want our children to grow up in ❤️
When we got back from the Cape last weekend my mom had surprised us by deep cleaning the first floor and I don’t think the playroom has looked so clean…..
I had to capture it so that I could look back on it and remember the one day it looked this well organized and clean :)
